More Chinese Cosmetics Banned in Philippines

THe Philippine Food and Drug Administration is banning nine more cosmetic products from being sold in the country.

Four of these creams bore the same Jiao Li brand previously banned, while the the others were Xin Jiao Li, Jiao Liang, Xin Jiao Liang, Jiao Mei, and Jiao Yan.

The cosmetics, advertised as cure for freckles and two others as "skin-whitening" products, contain high levels of mercury.

Steroid-Laced Slimming Pills from China

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration is warning the public against consuming the following unregistered slimming products from China:

  • Zhen de Shou Fat Loss Capsule
  • Zhen de Shou Fat Loss Tea

Studies by the agency found that samples of Zhen de Shou Fat Loss Capsules contain as their ingredients amphetamine, sibutramine or steroids, either singly or in combination with each other

Mercury-laced Cosmetics Banned in Philippines

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration is banning 3 China-made cosmetics found to contain dangerous levels of mercury - exceeding the allowable limit of one part per million.

The cosmetics all bear the Jiaoli brand.


Three more facial creams were found to contain mercury levels exceeding the allowable limit. They are Jiaoli Miraculous Cream, Jiaoli Hulchusu Special Cut Genuine, and Jiaoli 2+17 Days Clearing Facial Spots Suit.

Never Ending Saga of Tainted Milk

China is still looking for 170 tons of melamine-laced milk that were meant to be destroyed after the scandal blew up two years ago but were repackaged.

The new batch of tainted milk was found Shanghai, and in the provinces of Shaanxi, Shandong, Liaoning, Guizhou, Jilin and Hebe

Horse Toy Figures Recalled by Blip Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

  • About 15,000 Nature Wonders HD pinto horse toy figures, made in China and imported by Blip Toys of Minneapolis; the surface paint coating on the horse contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
  • The recalled Nature Wonders HD pinto horse toy figures have the model number 92093. They were sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January through July 2009. Details: by phone at 888-405-7696

RadioShack Knight Hawk Toy Helicopters Due to Fire Hazard

  • About 6,000 Danbar Knight Hawk toy helicopters, made in China and imported by RadioShack Corp.; the product can overheat while charging, posing a fire hazard.
  • The recalled toys have the model number 006047 marked on the back of the controller and the Knight Hawk 3D logo on the front of the controller. The toy helicopters were sold at RadioShack stores and online from October through November 2009. Details: by phone at 800-843-7422

Chinese-Made Children's Jewelry contains Toxic Metal

US authorities are investigating reports that say toxic metal cadmium is found in China-made children's jewelry. The tested jewelry contains 84-91% cadmium.

Cadmium, which is a carcinogen, is used as substitute for lead and zinc, often used components for jewelry.
